5 Facts about conventionally grown tea
Tea which is grown under the usual conditions, may be tasting fantastic.
But know that when you are drinking this stuff, you are indirectly contributing to these five things!
- Pesticides and fertilizers used at conventional tea farming to damage the local ecosystem. In addition to this some of the chemicals run down mountains and hills contaminating other farms, forests, rivers and even oceans located miles away.
- Fertilizers washing down the mountains are causing overfertilization of other crops and plants, killing many river and ocean species over time.
- Heavy metals from pesticides in the production of tea show up in your tea, and then into your body.
- Conventional tea is often grown on large-scale plantations dedicated solely to growing tea. Farming like this – also called Monoculture – strip the soil of nutrients, destroy forests and leave wildlife with no place to thrive.
- Conditions for the tea workers often only dictated by profit concerns.
